ABOUT US
Service
to the people of Western New York began in December 1881, when three
Felician Sisters from Detroit, Michigan arrived in Buffalo to teach
at St. Stanislaus Parish School. In addition to educating the children,
they were also instrumental in the acculturation of the families
with their new country. Through their efforts there was an expansion
of ministries and an increase in membership.
Throughout our
history, the sisters have been serving in education
on all levels. To adapt to the changing needs of the people we have
embraced ministries in the areas of social services, pastoral care
and healthcare. With a joy-filled spirit, we have dedicated ourselves
wholeheartedly and conscientiously to the service of the people
of God.
As we, the Felician Sisters, journey into the third millennium,
we do so with hope and an eagerness to bring the Gospel message
and the compassionate presence of Jesus to all.
Mission Statement
As Felician Franciscans called by God, we cooperate with Christ
in the spiritual renewal of the world.
(Mission Statement, General Chapter 2000)
The
emblem of the congregation is
THE PIERCED HEART OF MARY,
in its center is the HOST ON ACROSS
and the CROSSED HANDS OF CHRIST AND ST. FRANCIS.
The emblem features various images and symbols
that are especially important to the Felician Sisters.
THE
HOST
The Eucharist is the center of our lives.
We are nourished by,
challenged by
and united in the Eucharist.
THE CROSS
We are called
to continuous conversion of heart
as we seek to do God's will in our daily lives.
CHRIST'S HAND
Impelled by the gospel,
we seek to cooperate with Christ
in the spiritual renewal of the world.
~ Jesus calls and strengthens us
to live his love in service of others.
FRANCIS' HAND
As we follow Jesus in the example of Francis,
we endeavor to live Franciscan values and virtues -
faith, prayer, poverty, humility and simplicity .
MARY'S HEART
We look to Mary, our model of faith,
for constant inspiration and guidance.
THE SWORD
And Simeon said to Mary, his mother,
"this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel,
and to be a sign that will be contradicted,
and you yourself a sword shall pierce." (Luke 2:34,35)
THE FLAMES
Our hearts, like Mary's,
are on fire with love of God
and one another .
